A successful meeting was held in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday 18 June, attracting participants from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Riverside Wildlife Rehabilitation and Environmental Education Centre, Natal Museum, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and the Universities of Cape Town, Fort Hare, Limpopo, New South Wales and Wisconsin. The presentations covered a wide gambit of interests: Darren Curnoe (Timing and tempo of primate speciation/Baboon research in Kimberley); Nic Fourie (Dietary ecology, niche separation and craniometrics of Plio-Pleistocene Parapapio species); Riashna Sithaldeen (Genetic identity and evolutionary history of the Chacma baboons in South Africa); Paul Grobler and Trudy Turner (Genetics and taxonomy of South African vervets); Jean Harris (Policy regarding baboons and vervets);Bob Ventner (Vervet Monkey Sanctuary in the North) Judith Masters and Kwezi Mzilikazi (How did the lemurs get to Madagascar?).

Our activities included an opening reception for the Primate Gallery at the Natal Museum, an exciting scientific program and a fabulous braai at Judith's house.
